Why BelgiumDev?

BelgiumDev is a project by me, Rein Van Imschoot. I experienced both the hunt for developers as an internal recruiter as well as the hunt for jobs as an unemployed developer. Both sides of the experience left me frustrated.

As a company you either have to resort to one of the many (international) recruitment agencies that dictate the entire application process and often ask incredulous fees, or take a cut from the applicant's own salary. Or you have to post on one of the few job boards available in Belgium like ictjobs.be or VDAB, with little room to talk about your company, and hope you stand out amongst the many other openings (also more often than not posted by recruitment agencies).

As a developer in search for a job, your options are also limited. You can be stalked by some English recruiter, pushing you into taking interviews you'd rather not. You can scour the previously named websites but most of the jobs there are posted by "Cool IT Recruiter", so you have no idea at which company you'd end up. Or you can try to make sense of LinkedIn's terrible Jobs UI.

I figured there had to be a better way, which is how BelgiumDev came to be. With BelgiumDev we aim to provide a curated list of companies. You won't find jobs posted by recruitment agencies here. Which means, that as a developer, you know exactly where you'll end up. And as a company, you get lots of room to talk about the strengths, values, benefits, ... that make you stand out!

Developers can also subscribe to our weekly newsletter to keep track of new developer jobs being posted, while companies pay a flat fee per job posted. We don't keep applicants hostage in exchange for part of their salary. Applying for a job is simply one button away.
